30 years after his Olympic Finn Gold, José-Luis Doreste ESP grasped the Finn World Masters title. Finishing 2nd and 6th in the two moderate-wind races, he finished first overalls two points ahead of Antonio Poncell CHI Silver and Giacomo Giovanelli ITA Bronze. 353 participants.

Bad luck for the huge 353 boats Finn fleet at their World Masters in El Balis ESP. Only on one of the four race days up to now, sailing was possible, i.e. yesterday another no-wind-day.
Instead of the Medal Race planned for today, additional fleetraces shall be held ... provided there is enought wind.

After two windless days, a Southwesterly breeze around 5 to 8kn filled in yesterday allowing to held three races. The huge fleet has been divided in 4 groups.
The local Jose-Luis Doreste ESP, Finn Olympic Champion 1988, dominated the competition (ranks 1/1/2) in his group and is the overall leader ahead of Giacomo Giovanelli ITA and Aleksander Kulyukin RUS following not far behind. Former Finn World Champion (1974 !) Henry Sprague USA is best ranked North American on 45 in the 353-boat-fleet.

The 353 participants from 32 nations waited in vain for wind yesterday for the first races at the Finn World Masters. For today, a 6-9kn wind has been promised, just appropriate for most of the 40 years plus Finn sailors.

Today the Championship will be on for the 353 Masters (age 40 plus) from 32 nations, among them the defending Champion Vladimir Krutskikh RUS.
