Laser Radial & Standard - European Championship 2020 - Gdansk POL - Final results, ranks 6 for Charlie Buckingham USA and Sarah Douglas CAN

The Laser European Championship 2020 was concluded yesterday with two races held in a fresh 15kn breeze and big waves. ----- The British Laser Standard team has apparently been the most efficient during the Corona lockdown, grasping all three Medals. Elliot Hanson GBR, already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, advanced on rank 1 on the final day, replacing the leading Michael Beckett GBR not so at ease in the rougher conditions on the final day. Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR completed the GBR podium winning Bronze. Filip Jurisic CRO had to content himself with rank 4. The reigning World Champion Philipp Buhl GER enjoyed the fresh wind as best of the day (ranks 1 and 7), climbing on the 7th place in the final rankings, just behind Charlie Buckingham USA, who terminated his rewarding 2-month stage in Europe with a 6th place (4th nation). Best of the three Canadians at the end of the event was Norman Struthers CAN on rank 22 of the Silverfleet (= 85th overall). Yanic Gentry MEX dropped on rank 41 (= 104th overall) after his second Blackflag penalty in the last race. ----- Surprise in the Lasers Radial, where Anne-Marie Rindom DEN on top during the whole Championship with a 20 points advantage before the last races lost the title to the Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED, who dominated the day with the ranks 1 and 2. Bronze went to Agata Barwinska POL. With a race win in the second-last race of the Championship, Sarah Douglas CAN secured the 6th place overall, as best non-European. Elena Oetling MEX terminated the event as 53rd in the first half of the fleet. ----- In the Lasers Radial Men, Paul Hameeteman NED remained on top ahead of Filip Ciszkiewicz POL, who relegated Oskar Madonich UKR from rank 2. ----- All ranking lists, the final report and the video.
