This morning UTC in Melbourne, the kickoff was given to the 2017/18 Olympic Classes Worldcup season. As mostly in post-Olympic years, only a few top sailors decided to travel to Australia. One of the Europeans is the Finn World Champion Max Salminen SWE who will encounter Jake Lilley AUS and the Finn newcomer Tom Slingsby AUS, Laser Olympic Champion 2012 and AC 'Team Oracle' member. In the Lasers Standard, the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS has his team mate Matthew Wearn AUS as fiercest opponent.
From North America, Nevin Snow/Mac Agnese USA and Judge Ryan/Hans Henken USA in the 49ers and Kyle Martin CAN in the Finns are on the list of participants.
In addition to the Olympic Classes, youth sailors on 29ers, 420s, Lasers 4.7 and Optimists are racing as well.
The entry lists. By Press time this morning, the first ranking lists have been posted. Snow/Agnese USA finished 2nd and Ryan/Henken USA 9th in the 49ers, Kyle Martin CAN is 6th in the Finns. Till noon, all results and possibly already the daily news report will be available on the event website.
