Sail Melbourne began yesterday with some delay till the moderate 10kn wind filled in on a hot summery day (35°C). For the first time for 4 years, the event is not part of the Olympic Classes Worldcup circuit and therefore, very few participants from Europe and America are present.
The only two Europeans, as well as one Canadian sail in the Finns, the best-attended fleet in Melbourne this time. Jake Lilley AUS was leading after the first day with the ranks 1 and 2, and this morning UTC, he added two more bullets. On the 2nd place is the Laser Olympic Champion 2012 Tom Slingsby AUS in his first race in the Finns. The Finn World Champion Max Salminen SWE and Ed Wright GBR are at equal points with Slingsby AUS on the ranks 3 and 4. Kyle Martin CAN is on the 7th place. The Finn ranking list.
In the Lasers Standard, only one race was finished at Press Deadling this morning UTC. The Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS, the local matador Jeremy O'Connell AUS and the Worlds Bronze medalist Matthew Wearn AUS share rank one at equal points.
In the 470s, Daichi Takayama/Kimihiko Imamura JPN are ahead of the Olympic Silver medalists and multiple World Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS winning two of the three races. The Australian Olympians Carrie Smith/Jaime Ryan AUS are the best women's team on rank 4.

Two USA teams participate in the 49ers, where Gilmour/Turner AUS lead in front of Ryan/Henken USA and Snow/Agnese USA. Two more races are on today's program.
