World Sailing Annual General Meeting Sarasota FL, USA Final Day the Finn is out!
The heavy well-founded criticism of concerned sailors, including Olympians, was in vain, as the World Sailing Board and its CEO had the Annual General Meeting with 78 of the 140 MNA Delegates present under control. All decisions of the World Sailing Council were clearly approved with majorities around 75%. The Finn, first appearance in 1952, is herewith out and will be replaced by a "Mixed-Two-Person-keelboat" sailing a 3-day/2-night long-distance offshore race, a discipline never done so far and this in a yacht not yet selected (a Slovenian L3 yacht, price over CHF 100'000 is rumoured).
The Finn-Class has reacted in a first Communiqué with great disappointment.
The official report and the video replay of yesterday's session.
In the coming days, some more comments about this bizarre decision will certainly follow. We keep you posted ....
