The Qualifications for the Gold- and Silverfleets were concluded yesterday in Portugal in fresh winds around 20kn with the defending champions Seb Menzies/Blake McGlashan NZL remaining on top of the 420 men, 4 points ahead of Mason Mulcahy/Andre Van Dam NZL on rank 2. With two race wins, the two-times 470 Olympian and 420 World Champion 2003 (!) Onan Barreios ESP sailing with Ana Santana ESP advanced on rank 3. Will Mixyne Bachels/Louis Fontisee USA (North Lake and Biscayne Bay YC), ranks 3 and 6 yesterday, advanced on rank 9 as best of the three USA teams among the 89 entrants. ----- In the 420 women, Vita Heathcote/Milly Boyle GBR took the lead 4 points ahead of Marina Garau/Blanca Cabot ESP. With two race wins, Irene Calici/Petra Gregori ITA moved up on rank 3. Maddie Hawkins/Yumi Yoshiyasu USA (Annapolis YC) on rank 12 (day ranks 9 and 3) are the best of 7 USA Girls teams among 73 entrants. ----- In the U17-rankings, Odysseas Spanakis/Konstaninos Michalopoulos GRE defended the first place with two race wins, closely followed by Ange Delerce/Timothee Rossi FRA only two points behind. New on rank 3 are Florian Krauss/Jannis Suemmchen GER. Vanessa Lahrkamp/Katherine McNamara USA (American YC) on 11th are the best of 4 USA U-17 teams in the 66 boat fleet. ----- The ranking lists and the daily news.
