IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Day 43 News on damaged boats
After the stormy entrance to the Indian Ocean, the situation has now largely calmed down, although conditions remain very sporty with waves, fresh winds, and cold temperatures. ----- Louis Burton FRA, currently ranked 9th, has been seeking shelter for his 'Bureau La Vallée' near the Macquarie Island, for various major repairs to the rig - the report. ----- At the very end of the fleet, Sébastien Destremau FRA ('Merci') is struggling with steering system failures. A temporary repair should get him all the way to Australia, where most probably, he will abandon the race - the report. ----- Last Tuesday, Samantha Davis GBR ('Initiatives Coeur') resumed her circumnavigation of the Globe in Cape Town. With the claim of outside help, she is out of the race, but she still wants to finish the course 'hors-concours', to continue to raise money for her sponsor Initiatives Coeur, funds to enable heart surgeries for sick children.
