IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Day 55 Rounding Cape Horn in a storm
This afternoon UTC, Yannick Bestaven FRA ('Maître Coq') will be the first to round Cape Horn after a very uncomfortable approach, as he will have to weather a front from the north with winds up to 55kn and 9-meter waves. Charlie Dalin FRA ('Apivia') 166nm behind is the only one who could keep up. The chasing group has lost some distance. Thomas Ruyant FRA ('LinkedOut') in 3rd is already 475nm back. Another 48nm behind, Damien Séguin FRA ('Groupe Apicil') is still 4th as the best non-Foiler. He could break away from the chasing group and is in turn 116nm ahead of Benjamin Dutreux FRA ('OMIA'). Boris Herrmann GER ('Seaexplorer'), 37nm behind Dutreux, is leading the pursuer group (ranks 5-11) sailing within 60nm only. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
