IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Day 61 the leader loosing about 100 miles
As in the first phase of the race in November, the South Atlantic presents itself very complex again on the way back. Yannick Bestaven FRA ('Maître Coq'), having pulled away in the past days, was slowed down by the next high-pressure zone this morning UTC. Faster than the leader, Charlie Dalin FRA ('Apivia'), 327nm behind, and Thomas Ruyant FRA ('LinkedOut'), 354nm back, were able to reduce the backlog by 100nm during the past 24 hours. With a 446nm deficit, Damien Seguin FRA ('Groupe Apicil') kept the 4th place by this morning UTC. The inconsistent conditions will continue to cause position changes today, especially in the closely packed chasing group. ----- Boris Herrmann GER ('SeaExplorer') is now 712nm back in 9th, the first woman Isabelle Joschke FRA/GER ('MACSF') follows in 11th now 754 miles behind. ----- Pip Hare GBR ('Medallia') had to replace one of the rudders (here is the report) loosing one place to 16th. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
