IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Les Sables d'Olonne Day 82
Within just 19 hours, the first 8 reached the finish of the Vendée Globe in Les Sables d'Olonne yesterday. We already reported about the victory of Yannick Bestaven FRA (Maître CoQ IV): Granted a 10 hour 15 minute time allowance for his role in the search and rescue of Kevin Escoffier, Bestaven displaced the pre-race favorite Charlie Dalin FRA (Apivia) to win the 9th Vendée Globe by 2 hours, 31 minutes, the narrowest margin ever in the history of the race, earned by the oldest ever winner. Another 4 hours behind, Louis Burton FRA (Bureau Vallée 2) came in 3rd. ----- Jean Le Cam FRA (Yes we Cam !) crossed the line in 8th place. Thanks to his time bonus for saving Kevin Escoffier FRA, the 61-year-old veteran moved up to 4th place in his 5th Vendée Globe participation and thus became the best non-Foiler. After his collision with a fishing boat, 85 miles from the finish, Boris Herrmann GER (Seaexplorer) dropped back to 5th at the end. ----- Benjamin Dutreux FRA (OMIA) will be the only one to finish today, he was 62 miles short this morning. ----- The rankings, the race tracker and the reports.
