 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Final results - USA wins Nations' Rankings, Charlotte Leigh USA Bronze, the Worldchampions are Marco Gradoni ITA and Maria Perello ESP Not enough wind on the final day of the 2017 Optimist World Championship in Pattaya THA and Marco Gradoni ITA is the new World Champion. Muhammad Fauzi Bin Kaman Shah MAS (Malaysia) earned Silver after his Bronze Medal of last year. Bronze went to Costa Rica with Mic Sig Kos Mohr CRC. Stephen Baker USA is on the excellent 4th place. The best girl was Maria Perello ESP, age 12 only, on rank 23, Palika Poonpat THA 35th took Silver and Charlotte Leigh USA 42nd Bronze. 281 Optimists from 62 nations participated.

After the Team Racing victory, USA is also the winner of the Nations Rankings of the individual Championship fleetrace ahead of China and Thailand with Silver and Bronze.

 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 7, three races left, with 5 contenders for 3 medals,including Stephan Baker USA The Optimist World Championship in Pattaya THA continued yesterday with three races sailed in a moderate 8 to 10 kn breeze.
Marco Gradoni ITA defended his lead with a 13 points' advantage on yesterday's best Muhammad Fauzi Bin Kaman Shah MAS (Malaysia), who finished on the ranks 2/12/2. Options for the title - with three races remaining - have also Mic Sig Kos Mohr CRC (Costa Rica), Stephan Baker USA and Haoze Fang CHN.

 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 6 - No wind The 281 participants of the Optimist Worlds in Thailand waited in vain for the breeze yesterday. After a thunderstorm at noon, the wind disappeared and racing had to be cancelled. Here the news.
The IODA (Class Association) Annual Meeting voted in favour of Antigua as venue for the 2019 World Championship. The 2019 European Championship will be in Crozon-Morgat FRA. Last year, the Worlds and Europeans 2018 were allotted to Cyprus (Famagusta) and the Netherlands (Scheveningen).

 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 5 - USA Team Race World Champion The best 16 nation teams sailed yesterday the Final of the Team Race Championship. In a thight last duel, the USA defeated China, while Malaysia earned the Bronze-Medal. The results and the news.
Today, the individual fleetracing Worlds continue. After the Qualification phase, Marco Gradoni ITA is first with a 2 points' lead on Roy Levi ISR.

 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 4 - Team Racing, USA qualified for best-16 round The first round of the Optimist Team Race Championship was on the program yesterday, the traditional event after the individual Championship's halftime. Singapore, France, Sweden, Malaysia, Germany, China, Korea, Ireland from Groupe Bravo and USA, Peru, Thailand, Turkey, Italy, England, Hong Kong and Brazil from Groupe Alpha qualified for the races of the best-sixteen of today.

 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 3, Baker USA 6th The qualifications for the Gold-, Silver-, Bronze- and Emarald Fleets ended yesterday with another two races.
Marco Gradoni ITA, day ranks 1 and 2 in his Group, took the overall lead 2 points ahead of Roy Levi ISR. Mic Sig Kos Mohr CRC follows on rank 3. The best of the four USA Optimists qualified for the Goldfleet is Stephan Baker USA on rank 6.

Today, the Team-Race World Championship is on the program. On Monday, the individual fleetracing Worlds will continue.

Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 2, two USA boys in top ten

 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 2, two USA boys in top ten A fresh 16 to 18 kn breeze prevailed on day two of the Optimist World Championship 2017 in Pattaya THA, and at the end of the day, the kids rushed downwind ashore in a thunderstorm. The two races of the day changed the ranking lists substantially.
After 4 races sailed (still without discard), Mic Sig Kos Mohr CRC (Costa Rica) and Marco Gradoni ITA are on top at equal points. Roy Levi ISR advanced on rank 3. The best North Americans are Stefan Baker USA on 5th, Mitchell Callahan USA on 8th. Today, two more races are on the program before the Groups will be reorganised in Gold-, Silver-, Bronze- and Emerald-Fleets.

 Optimist - World Championship 2017 - Pattaya THA - Day 1, Liam O'Keffee USA 10th Two races were sailed yesterday on day one of the 2017 Optimist World Championship in Pattaya THA. The record-size 281 boats' fleet from 61 nations is split in four Groups.
Olivier Jaquet NED won both races of his Group and is the first overall leader ahead of Marco Gradoni ITA and Haoze Fang CHN on the ranks 2 and 3. Liam O'Keffee USA is the best North American on rank 10. Beatriz Gago POR is the best girl on rank 11.
