Olympic Classes - Copa do Brasil - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Final results, Bronze for McNay/Hughes (470) and Caleb Paine (Finn) USA

 Olympic Classes - Copa do Brasil - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Final results, Bronze for McNay/Hughes (470) and Caleb Paine (Finn) USA The Copa do Brasil on the 2016 Olympic waters ended yesterday with the Medal Races, sailed in a 12 to 18 kn breeze.
Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS were the preliminary winners already before the 470 men race, but they did not hesitate to make the final point by winning also yesterday's heat. Luke Patience/Chris Grube GBR followed on rank 2 in their first common event. McNay/Hughes USA grasp the Bronze medal. Hannah Mills/Saskia Clark GBR are on top of the 470 women ahead of Kondo/Yoshioka JPN, winners of the Medal Race and replacing herewith Lecointre/Defrance FRA on rank 2. Annie Haeger/Briana Provancha USA finished 7th after an OCS penalty yesterday.
Annemiek Bekkering/Annette Duetz NED decided the 49erFX regatta in their favour on the last day with the Medal Race victory. Echegoyen/Betanzos ESP had to content themselves with the Silver medal. Mai-Hansen/Salskov DEN remained on the 3rd place. John Pink/Stuart Bithelle GBR had the 49er victory in their hands, when Lange/Lange ARG started too early in the Medal Race and were disqualified. Outteridge/Jensen AUS and Botin/Marra ESP completed the podium.
No change among the top three of the Lasers Standard with Tonci Stipanovich CRO as champion in front of Matthew Wearn AUS and Robert Scheidt BRA. Bronze also for Robert Scheidt's wife Gintare Scheidt-Volungeviciute LTU in the Lasers Radial, where Evi Van Acker BEL and Anne-Marie Rindom DEN took Gold and Silver. Charlie Buckingham USA finished 9th, Paige Railey USA 5th.
Giles Scott GBR added another title to his never-ending row of Finn victories, but it was close this time, as Vasilij Zbogar SLO remained only one point behind after his Medal Race win. Caleb Paine USA defended his 3rd place overall. Winning the Medal Race of the Nacras 17, it was the last moment for Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA to demonstrate their class overtaking Waterhouse/ Darmanin AUS and Saxton/Groves GBR remaining on 2nd and 3rd.
First in the RS:X female windsurfers is Bryony Shaw GBR ahead of Chan Hei Man CHN and Marina Alabau ESP. The superior winner in the RS:X men is the Olympic Champion 2012 Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED ahead of Nick Dempsey GBR and Nimrod Mashiah ISR.

 Olympic Classes - Copa do Brasil - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 5, 5 US-Teams in the Medal Races today Yesterday, the Qualification Series for today's Medal Races were concluded.
The Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS dominated once more the 470 men and are the premature winners of the Copa 30 points ahead of Fantela/Marenic CRO who will fight for Silver or Bronze with McNay/Hughes USA. Luke Patience GBR with his new crew Chris Grube GBR has a theoretical chance to make the podium in the last race. In the 470 women, the leading Hannah Mills/Saskia Clark GBR are 9 points ahead of Lecointre/Defrance FRA. Kondo/Yoshioka JPN follow on 3rd.
Pink/Bithell GBR start in the Medal Race as leaders of the 49ers, with Lange/Lange ARG and Outteridge/Jensen AUS on the ranks 2 and 3. A duel between Tamara Echegoyen/Berta Betanzos ESP and Annemiek Bekkering/Anette Duetz NED 4 points behind will decide on the winner in the 49ersFX .
Only one point is the difference between Matthew Wearn AUS and Tonci Stipanovic CRO fighting for the title in the Lasers Standard, but the 3rd-ranked Robert Scheidt BRA with an 8 points' deficit could perhaps benefit from a close taking duel of the leaders and move on top. Giles Scott GBR has a 5 points' lead on Vasilij Zbogar SLO before the Medal Race of the Finns. First in the Nacra 17 Rankings are still Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS, Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA once more reduced the backlog to 1 point.
Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED starts in the Medal Race of the RS:X male windsurfers with a 9 points' lead. The heat is on in the RS:X women windsurfers with Chan Hei Man CHN and Bryony Shaw GBR on top at equal points.

 Olympic Classes - Copa do Brasil - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 4 The Copa do Brazil is in the crucital phase today to select the fleets for tomorrow's Medal Races.
Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS have extended their lead in the 470 men on 24 points and will most probably be the premature overall winners already this evening. Mion/Bouvet FRA and McNay/Hughes USA kept their ranks 2 and 3. Hannah Mills/Saskia Clark GBR on first in the 470 women are now 5 points ahead of Lecointre/Defrance FRA. Mrak/Macarol SLO moved up on rank 3.
Pink/Bithell GBR are now the clear leaders in the 49ers with Lange/Lange ARG and Outteridge/Jensen AUS as first chasers. Three race wins yesterday extended the lead of Tamara Echegoyen/Berta Betanzos ESP in the 49ersFX. Bekkering/Duetz NED and Maj-Hansen/Salskov DEN remained on the positions 2 and 3.
Giles Scott GBR had the upper hand in the duel on top of the Finns with two race wins, but Vasilij Zbogar SLO is only 3 points back. The new leaders in the Nacras 17 are Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS, one point ahead of Thomas Zajac/Tanja Frank AUT. Saxton/Grove GBR and Besson/Riou FRA on the ranks 3 and 4 are not far behind.
The new leader in the Lasers Standard is Tonci Stipanovic CRO, 3 points in front of Matthew Wearn AUS. New on rank 3 is now Bruno Fontes BRA closely followed by Robert Scheidt BRA. Evi Van Acker BEL defended her first place in the Lasers Radial. Anne-Marie Rindom DEN and Marit Bouwmeester NED swapped their positions chasing Van Acker.

 Laser - Copa do Brasil - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 4 The Copa do Brazil is in the crucital phase today to select the fleets for tomorrow's Medal Races.
The new leader in the Lasers Standard after yesterday's races is Tonci Stipanovic CRO, 3 points in front of Matthew Wearn AUS. New on rank 3 is now Bruno Fontes BRA closely followed by Robert Scheidt BRA. Charlie Buckingham USA is on the 6th position and should be able to make the cut by this evening with a 9 points' reserve on rank 11.
Evi Van Acker BEL defended her first place in the Lasers Radial. Anne-Marie Rindom DEN and Marit Bouwmeester NED swapped their positions chasing Van Acker. Paige Railey USA is 4th only 2 points behind rank 2.

 Olympic Classes - Copa do Brasil - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 3, McNay/Hughes 470 and Caleb Paine Finn on 3rd Light winds prevailed again on the the third day of the Copa do Brasil, but later in the afternoon, a fresher breeze with up to 15 kn filled in.
The favorites Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS finally 'woke up' and booked two bullets climbing on top of the 470 men. Bouvet/Mion FRA and McNay/Hughes USA are the first chasers. Camille Lecointre/Hélène Defrance FRA defended their first position in the 470 women, while Hannah Mills/Sakia Clark GBR advanced on rank 2 as best of the day. Ai Kondo(Miho Yoshioka JPN remain on 3rd.
Yago and Klaus Lange ARG took the lead in the 49ers ahead of Pink/Bithell GBR. Outteridge/Jensen descended on the 3rd place. Tamara Echegoyen/Berta Betanzos ESP remained on top of the 49ersFX, with Bekkering/Duetz NED and Mai-Hansen/Salskov DEN on the ranks 2 and 3.
Thanks to two race wins in the Finns yesterday, Vasilij Zbogar SLO is now first joining Giles Scott GBR at equal points. Caleb Paine USA advanced on rank 3. Thomas Zajac/Tanja Frank AUT defended their lead in the Nacras 17, but the World Champions Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA are now only one point back. Ben Saxton/Nicola Groves GBR remain on 3rd.
Matthew Wearn AUS has now a 6 points' lead in the Lasers Standard. Tonci Stipanovic CRO and Robert Scheidt BRA are new on the ranks 2 and 3. No change in the Lasers Radial, where Evi Van Acker BEL leads ahead of Marit Bouwmeester NED and Anne-Marie Rindom DEN.
A leader change happened however in the RS:X male windsurfers: Nimrod Mashiah ISR replaced Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED on rank 1. Marina Alabau remained first in the RS:X female windsurfers six points ahead of Bryony Shaw GBR.

 Olympic Classes - Copa do Brasil - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 2 Light winds prevailed also on the second day of the Copa do Brasil and the races were completed according to program.
Bouvet/Mion FRA extended their lead in the 470 men with two 2nd ranks. Belcher/Ryan AUS follow 12 points behind on rank 2 at equal points with Fantela/Marenic CRO. French is the lead also in the 470 women with Lecointre/Defrance FRA, 10 points ahead of Vadlau/Ogar AUT. Kondo/Yoshioka JPN are 3rd. Leader change in the 49erFX where Echegoyen/Bertanzos ESP are now on top ahead of Bekkering/Duetz NED and Dobson/Ainsworth GBR as first chasers. In the 49ers are Outteridge/Jensen AUS in the lead closely followed by Pink/Bithell GBR and Lange/Lange ARG. Giles Scott GBR corrected the suboptimal performance on the opening day with two race wins and climbed on rank 1 in the Finns in front of Jonas Hoegh-Christensen DEN and Vasilij Zbogar SLO on the ranks 2 and 3. Two race wins also for Thomas Zajac/Tanja Frank AUT, taking the lead in the Nacra 17 ahead of Ben Saxton/Nicola Groves GBR and Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA. In the RS:X men windsurfers, the Olympic Champion Dorian Van Rijsselberghe NED remains on top. Zofia Nofreti-Klepacka POL has a small lead on Bryony Shaw GBR in the RS:X women.
