Olympic News from Rio Masses of dead fish found near Olympic sailing venue
The bad water quality at the Rio 2016 Olympics was only a marginal subject at the ISAF Annual Conference in November 2015, as the Federation seems to have full confidence in the Brazilian organising authority to handle the problem. The threat to dislocate the regattas offshore to avoid the polluted waters of Guanabara Bay is no longer valid, as the final race program with the indication of the race courses reveals.
Yesterday, thousands of dead fish were found floating in Rio de Janeiro's picturesque but polluted bay, not far from where the Olympic sailing competitions will be held in August, bobbing in the waves alongside floating garbage. However, the Brazilian authorities pretend, that the fish may have been dumped by commercial fishermen who were trying to catch more valuable species. See more in a report in Scuttlebutt today.
