IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe Les Sables d'Olonne FRA Day 8, Alex Johnson GBR pulls away
As expected, the foilers were able to make full use of the moderate trade winds to take advantage of their speed benefits. And the rest of the field is also happy about the finally pleasant conditions - a video.----- At the top, Alex Thomson GBR with his foiling 'Hugo Boss' was able to pull away 75nm. Jean Lea Cam FRA ('Yes we Cam', Non-Foiler) 65nm ahead of Thomas Ruyant FRA ('Linkedout', Foiler) keeps up well on rank 2. Samantha Davies GBR ('Initiatives Coeur', Foiler) on rank 11 remains the best-classified woman with a gap of 276nm on the leader. ----- The speed race in the trade winds will continue for a few days, as the inner-tropical convergence zone (Doldrums) is currently only weakly developed. The leading boats will probably be able to advance to the equator without major obstacles. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
