Rough conditions and rain for the start of the Fastnet Race in Cowes yesterday. Of the more than 500 teams originally entered, just 355 turned up due to the rough weather forecast. ----- This morning, as expected, the Ultime trimarans are clearly ahead on the approach to the Fastnet Rock: 'Edmond de Rothschild' with Franck Cammas/Charles Caudrelier FRA leads by 28 miles over 'Sodebo' with Thomas Coville FRA. ----- The brand new Swan-125 'Skorpios' of Dmitri Rybolovlev RUS with Fernando Echevarri ESP at the helm in 5th is the first monohull, closely followed by the first IMOCA Open 60 'Apivia' with Charlie Dalin/Paul Meilhat FRA. 'Charal' with Jéremy Béyou FRA/Christopher Pratt GBR 30 miles back is the second Open 60. '11th hour' with Justine Mettraux SUI/Simon Fisher GBR is 39 miles behind in 6th. ----- In the Class 40, Axel Tréhin FRA and his team are in front, 4 miles behind is 'Banque du Léman' with Simon Koster/Valentin Gautier/Alan Roura SUI in 2nd place. ----- The Race-Tracker and the report.
