The Golden Globe 2022/23 Day 219 Dramatic rescue of Ian HerbertJones GBR
The Golden Globe - the non-stop round the world race "like 1968" - is in its final phase: At the top it remains exciting, the leader Kirstin Neuschäfer RSA leads with just 60 miles ahead of Abilhash Tomay IND and also Michael Guggenberger AUT is in 3rd place with 100 miles behind is in the race for the victory, still 2000 miles are missing until Les Sables d'Olonne - the Race-Tracker. Drama on the other hand for Ian Herbert-Jones GBR sailing in 4th (and last) place: after his passage of Cape Horn he got caught in a heavy storm (55-80kn !). He injured his back and was unable to drop a drogue anchor, so his 35-footer capsized across the wave several times until the mast broke. This morning he was rescued by a Taiwanese fishing boat - the report.
