The final races yesterday were sailed in a fresh breeze around 15 kn, quite a change compared to the two light wind days before. Gaia Bergonzini ITA was the overall winner ahead of Laszlofy Levente HUN and Arthur De Jonghe HUN. Apparently, the fresh conditions were not the preferred 'turf' of the North Americans, and they dropped on the ranks 27 (Mateo Farina USA, 17 ranks down) and 28 (Sebastian Riquelme-Beckmann MEX, 15 down), but both were definitely among the very best in the 533 Optimist sailors fleet from 25 nations. The fleet, split in five groups, sailed another three races in a 6-8 kn wind yesterday, terminating the qualification series. Today, the best 107 will race for victory in a Goldfleet.
Finishing 1/2/1, Mateo Bedoni ITA has taken the lead ahead of Vasiliy Andreev RUS. Laszlofy Levente HUN moved up on 3rd. Gaia Bergonzini ITA on 4th is the best girl. Mateo Farina USA is 10th, Sebastian Riquelme-Beckmann MEX 13th. Another two USA boats made the Goldfleet.

All five fleets sailed two races each despite of the light and slackening wind on the opening day of the Palamos Nations Trophy. The first overall leader is Vasiliy Andreew RUS with the ranks 1 and 2 in his Group. Leonardo Honold GER, Mateo Farina USA and Sebastian Riquelme-Beckmann MEX follow on the ranks 2 to 4. 533 sailors from 25 nations participate.

533 Optimists from 25 nations (among them the USA and Mexico) will start to the Nations Trophy Regatta today at 10 a.m. UTC. According to the wind forecast, a 10 kn breeze will prevail at the start, diminishing on 2 kn during the races.

The Nations Trophy, a first highlight of the 2016 Optimist season, begins today in Palamos ESP with 540 participants from 25 nations (among them a big US delegation).
