The Fireball World Championship 2016 in South Africa was concluded yesterday with two races. Winning 9 of the 10 heats and a 2nd place as discard, Thomas Gillard/Richard Anderton GBR were a class of their own and outstanding winners of the World Champion's title. Superior performance also by the European Champions Claude Mermod/Ruedi Moser SUI with seven 2nd places, winning Silver in South Africa. Bronze went to Ben Schulz/Jack Lidgett AUS.

Races nbr 7 and 8 were sailed in South Africa yesterday after the lay day at the Fireball World Championship and the podium has been decided prematurely already. Thomas Gillard/Richard Anderton GBR finished again twice on top and are World Champions before the last races today. Silver goes to Claude Mermod/Ruedi Moser SUI with two 2nd ranks yesterday and Bronze has been earned by Ben Schulz/Jack Lidgett AUS with a safe 17 points' lead on rank 4.

Light winds prevailed for the first time at the Fireball Worlds in South Africa yesterday after two windy days. Three races were sailed in a 6-8 kn breeze, all won by the clearly leading Thomas Gillard/Richard Anderton GBR. Claufe Mermod/Ruedi Moser SUI finished three times on rank 2 and are on a safe track for Silver. Similar situation for Bronze with the solidly sailing Ben Schulz/Jack Lidgett AUS.

Fresh winds prevailed again early on the second day of the Fireball Worlds in South Africa, but during the second heat, the breeze slackened on 12-14 kn. Thomas Gillard/Richard Anderton GBR won both races and clearly lead overall ahead of Claude Mermod/Ruedi Moser SUI, day ranks 2 and 3. On the 3rd place remain Ben Schulz/Jack Lidgett AUS. As tune-up to the Fireball World Championship beginning on Sunday, the South African Championship was held during the past four days. Part of the fleet was present already among them Claude Mermod/Ruedi Moser SUI, who won the title with a superior five-bullet performance in the six races completed, making them favorites for the World Championship. 22 boats' fleet from 7 nations participated.
