Mini 650 - Les Sables-Les Acores-Les Sables - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Leg 2 - Day 8
11 of the 13 Protos and 14 of the 32 Series Minis arrived back at Les Sables in France. The overall rankings have not yet been posted on the event website early this morning UTC.





Up to now, 9 Protos and 6 Series Minis have reached the arrival of leg 2 in Les Sables d'Olonne. Herewith, the overall podiums of the two classes are firm.
Yesterday, Jörg Riechers GER finished first in Les Sables d'Olonne FRA as winner in the Mini Protos having raced at an average speed of 9,1kn in the leg 2 off the offshore race. Approaching the arrival, he distanced his last challenger Erwan Le Méné FRA by an hour. Overall winner is François Jambou FRA, winner of leg one, who finished 4th yesterday with a backlog of just 2 hours. Le Méné FRA and Riechers GER occupy the ranks 2 and 3.
This afternoon, the first Protos will cross the finish line of leg 2 in Les Sables d'Olonne erreichen. 68nm before the arrival, Jörg Riechers GER leads 15nm ahead of Erwan Le Méné FRA. Nothing has been decided yet. François Jambou FRA, winner of leg one, follows as 3rd 48nm behind, and his overall victory is practically certain.
The fleet is making good progress in a 20kn rear wind.
The complete fleet having veered East is now sailing in a Westwind belt with peaks of up to 35kn, propelling the Minis with speeds of up to 12kn. But the rough sea is very demanding for the solo skippers.
The fleet reached the predicted fresher westwinds during the past night and veered direcion East. In speeds exceeding 10kn, Erwan Le Méné FRA has taken the lead in the Protos 4nm ahead of Jörg Riechers GER on 2nd. In the Series Mini, leg 1 winner Ambrogio Beccaria ITA has taken the command. Valentin Gautier SUI 9,7nm back is on rank 2.
The Mini fleet is still heading North in southwesterly winds around 16kn searching for a fresher breeze.
Yesterday, the start to leg 2 was given on the Acores for the 48 solo skippers heading back to France 1'600nm away. This morning, the fleet was still closely together sailing North in moderate winds.
This evening at 19h, the start to leg 2 from the Acores back to France over 1'600nm will be given. 45 participants remained in the race.
The start to leg 2 from the Acores back to Les Sables d'Olonne planned for today has been postponed on tomorrow Wednesday. The last Series Mini will arrive at the finish of leg 1 only this morning.
Two Minis were still underway this morning, expected to finish in Horta today. On next Tueday, the start will be given for leg 2 back to Les Sables d'Olonne. In both classes, the leading boats are the clear favorites for the overall victory, as François Jambou FRA in the Protos and Ambrogio Beccaria ITA in the Series Minis have substantial advantages.
Yesterday was rush hour in Horta: 12 of the 13 Protos still in the race and 16 of the 32 Series Minis concluded leg one. Very close was the battle for the ranks 2 to 4 in the Series Minis: Félix De Navacelle FRA, Amélie Grassi FRA and Valentin Gautier SUI finished within onl 4 minutes.
As expected, Ambrogio Beccaria ITA finished leg 1 in Horta as first of the Series Minis. This morning at 7hrs crossed Félix De Navacelle FRA the line as 2nd, while the fight for rank 3 will probably be decided on the finish line only between Amélie Grassi FRA and Valentin Gautier SUI separated by one mile only 19nm before the arrival. They are expected by this afternoon.
Yesterday, Erwan Le Méné FRA reached the finish of leg one in Horta (Acores) as second Proto with a backlog of 1 day and 4 hours. The lull conditions of the Acores Anticyclone marked the final hours of his race. Today, Axel Trehin FRA (35nm ahead of the arrival) and another 9nm back Jörg Riechers GER will arrive in Horta. În the Series Minis, Ambrogio Beccaria ITA has 51nm left to the finish. Felix de Navacelle FRA as 2nd was 68nm behind, Valentin Gautier SUI on 3rd is another back.
Yesterday, after 9 days and 1 hous, François Jambou FRA with his round-bow Protos Mini crossed the finish line of leg 1 as winner. And this inspite of the fact, that the communication electronic broke down and he was withoun weather forecasts and positions. His advantage on the opponents is over a day and he will hardly loose his first place overall during leg 2. Erwan Le Méné FRA had still 57nm to sail this morning. The first non-French Jörg Riechers GER on 4th is 123nm behind.
This morning, François Jambou FRA will reach the finish on Horta as winner of leg 1, as only 25nm have been left this morning at 3h CET. Erwan Le Mémé FRA on rank 2 is 85nm behind. Another 30nm back follows Axel Trehin FRA. Jörg Riechers GER is on rank 4.
Approaching the Acores, the Minis progressed on the edge of a disturbtion in fresh winds around 15kn.
Passing a transition zone with fresher winds in the North and lulls in the South, the two leader did extend their lead: François Jambou FRA is now 35nm ahead of Erwan Le Mené FRA. Jörg Riechers GER is 4th with an 81nm backlog. Ambrogio Beccaria ITA is first in the Series-Minis 64nm ahead of Valentin Gautier SUI. 350nm are left to the finish on Horta.
Only 450 miles or around 3 days are still left to sail to the finish on the Azores. In the Prototypes, François Jambou FRA, who took advantage of the fresher winds in the north, was able to extend his lead over Erwan Le Mene FRA to 30 miles. Ambrogio Beccaria ITA continues to lead the series Minis, with Valentin Gautier SUI advancing to second but is 39 miles behind. The
After three days of downwind sailing in moderate winds, the fleet of 56 minis reached a westerly frontal system. In about 20 knots of wind, they are now sailing upwind. Among the leaders in the protos François Jambou FRA is the only one who picked a more northerly route. He is now 21 miles ahead of Erwan Le Mené FRA. In the fleet of the series Minis Ambrogio Beccaria ITA is still leading ahead of Nicolas d'Estais FRA who is 20 miles behind. There are still around 650 miles to go to the finish in the Azores. Several westerly frontal systems with up to 40 knots of wind are still ahead of the 56 solo skippers. The
Yesterday, light winds prevailed in the first leg in the direction of Azores. The fleet of 56 solo skippers is still relatively close together. Yesterday, they passed the Cape Finisterre at the northwestern tip of Spain. The group which is sailing a slightly more southern route was a little bit faster. Erwan Le Méné FRA leads among the Protos, with François Jambou FRA now in second place, 5.5 miles behind. Jörg Riechers GER dropped back to fourth, 17 miles behind. In the Protos the slightly southern sailing Erwan Le Méné FRA who has taken a slightly southern route has taken the lead. Jörg Riechers GER is currently second. Ambrogio Beccaria ITA has taken the lead in the series Minis, Valentin Gautier SUI advanced to second place, 7 miles behind. The
