On the South Pacific, Charlie Dalin FRA and Yoann Richomme FRA are still in a close duel for the lead. This morning, the two were only 5 miles apart. Sébastien Simon FRA, on the other hand, has lost a lot, as he now has to sail again on the bow without a foil. The first chasing group, led by Thomas Ruyant FRA in 4th place, is 900 miles behind. The conditions on the Pacific have now moderated somewhat, and this morning, everyone was traveling in more moderate winds (max 25 knots). After leading the fleet for almost 3 weeks - with an advance of up to 200 miles - Charlie Dalin FRA lost his top position to Yoann Richomme FRA who continued his shooting fast ride and passed the former leader yesterday. This morning, the two were only 8 miles apart. Sébastien Simon FRA, sailing in 3rd place, also benefited from the southerly winds, which enabled him to sail on his ‘healthy bow’ with foil. He closed the gap to 47 miles. While the leading trio is making good progress in the still favourable conditions in the South Pacific and has moved closer together - Charlie Dalin FRA now leads by 44 miles from Yoann Richomme FRA and 129 miles from Sébastien Simon FRA - the chasers are being slowed down by a flat high-pressure wedge: Thomas Ruyant FRA is now 820 miles behind in fourth place and leading the chasing group, Boris Herrmann GER is still 1,000 miles behind in 10th place, Justine Mettraux SUI is a further 100 miles behind in 11th place.

This morning, the second chasing group in particular is struggling with the stormy conditions of the South Indian Ocean. The first 15 are making good progress in moderate conditions of around 20 knots, the first to slow down this morning was the leading Charlie Dalin FRA, Sébastien Simon FRA was able to reduce his gap to 199 miles and Yoann Richomme FRA has also moved a little closer again (261 miles back). The gap to Yoann Richomme FRA (Paprec-Arkea) in 3rd place has grown to 533 miles. Jéremy Beyou FRA (Charal) now follows in 5th place, 1026 miles behind, leading a chasing group of 4. The Indian Ocean continues to offer varied conditions with several areas of low pressure. He has completed the race five times, always finishing at the front of the field, best result was a second place in his first participation in 2002. IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2000 - Les Sables d'Olonne - The Vendée on TV

Tonight at 9 pm, the France 2 TV channel will be showing the film ‘Seul’, which tells the adventurous story of Yves Parlier FRA on the occasion of the Vendée Globe 2000. In the lead, Parlier broke his mast in the South Pacific. In a bay in Southern Australia, he repaired the mast (35 meters!) and reinstalled it without outside help! He then continued the race and reached the finish line 2 months behind schedule. To be able to feed himself without outside help, he collected seaweed and mussels, his menu for the rest of the race. IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2024 - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Violette Dorange FRA

Violette Dorange FRA, the youngest ever Vendée participant at the age of 23, began her offshore career in the Optimist eight years ago by crossing the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar with her Optimist! She then switched to the 420, where she shone in 2016-2018 with three podium finishes at the Junior World Championships. In 2018, she finished 16th at the 2018 Mini-Transat, and then changed to the Figaro 3 single-handed class for 3 seasons. With Jean Le Cam FRA's Open 60, she is now taking part in the Vendée Globe for the first time and is already one of the favorites among the conventional Open 60s without foils. ----- The report.

IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2024 - Les Sables d'Olonne - Race Village open

The Vendée Globe Race Village opened in Les Sables d'Olonne on Saturday in the rain but with numerous visitors already in attendance - numerous attractions await visitors every day, from a tour of an Open 60 to a ‘Degustation Culinaire’. ----- The event website also features portraits of the participants, including Antoine Cornic FRA, who had to abandon his first Vendée Globe campaign in 2004 due to a lack of funding, then ran a restaurant on the Ile du Ré for 20 years and is now realizing his dream.
