ILCA 6 & 7 - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - The interviews

At the Palma World Cup, the winners in both ILCA classes were decided before the Medal Race. ----- Micky Beckett GBR already won the ILCA 7 in Palma last year, while Marit Bouwmester NED just became a mother for the first time.  Olympic Worldcup - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Final results The first World Cup of the year came to an end on the Bay of Palma with the Medal Races yesterday. ----- Marit Bouwmeester NED in ILCA 6 and Michael Beckett GBR in ILCA 7 were already the overall winners after the qualifications. Maud Jayet SUI, the only Swiss in a Medal Race, remained in 9th place in ILCA 6. ----- In the Mixed 470, Keiju Okada/Miho Yoshioka JPN defended their lead, while Luise Wanser/Philipp Autenrieth GER moved up to second place thanks to their victory in the Medal Race. ----- In the 49erFX, Olympic Champions Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA won clearly ahead of the World Champions Odile Van Aanholt/Annette Duetz NED. ----- The 49ers were dominated by New Zealanders and Australians who came to Europe well-trained from the southern summer. Logan Dunning/Oscar Gunn NZL took the win ahead of Tom Burton/Max Paul AUS, and McKenzie/McHardie NZL were 3rd. ----- In the Nacra 17, John Gimson/Anna Burnett GBR finished first ahead of Vittorio Bissaro/Maelle Frascati ITA thanks to a 2nd place in the Medal Race. ----- In the Kite-Foils, the 16-year-old Max Maeder SGP dominated the final day and won ahead of Connor Bainbridge GBR. The Singaporean with Swiss roots also won the Trofeo Princesa Sofia as the best overall winner of all classes. ----- In the women's kite foils, Lauriane Nolot FRA held her ground at the top. ----- In the windsurfing, there were two English victories by Emma Wilson GBR in the women's event and Samuel Sills GBR in the men's event. Yesterday, the qualifications for today's Medal Races were completed on Palma Bay. ----- Marit Bouwmeester NED in the ILCA 6 and Michael Beckett GBR in the ILCA 7 are already the winners, as their lead is too big to be caught in the Medal Race. ----- Keiju Okada/Miho Yoshioka JPN 18 points ahead in the Mixed 470 are also difficult to join. ----- In the 49er, however, it remains exciting: McHardie/McKenzie NZL are leading by 2 points over Logan Dunning/Oscar Gunn NZL.  Olympic Worldcup - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 4 The final races kicked off yesterday in the Bay of Palma with light winds between 8 and 10kn.....and many changes in the classifications: In the Mixed 470, Keiju Okada/Miho Joshioka JPN took the lead, with Camille Lecointre/Jérémy Mion FRA 8 points behind in second. In 9th place, Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler SUI are now in the middle of the fight for Medal Race slots, with ranks 7 to 13 just 8 points apart. There was also a leader change in the 49er: Logan Dunning/Oscar Gunn NZL now lead by 6 points over Lukasz Przybitek/Jacek Piasecki POL. Sébastien Schneiter/Arno De Planta SUI and Joshua Richner/Nilo Schärer SUI follow in the Silverfleet in 40th and 47th place respectively. In the 49erFX, World Champions Odile Van Aanholt/Annette Duetz NED have taken the lead, with Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA following 3 points behind. In ILCA 6, Marit Bouwmester NED extended her lead to already 14 points. Maxime Jonker NED is now 2nd, Chiara Benini ITA is 3rd, Maud Jayet SUI moved up to 4th. In the ILCA 7 Michael Beckett GBR convinced with ranks 1/1/3 and moved away at the top. Pavlos Kontides CYP follows 14 points behind in 2nd place, Thomas Saunders NZL is 3rd. In the Silverfleet Gauthier Verhulst SUI is 10th (=72 overall). In the Nacra 17 John Gimson/Anna Burnett GBR lead with 5 points ahead of Vittorio Bissaro/Maelle Frascari ITA. New at the top of the Kite-Foiler now is 16-year-old Maximilian Maeder SGP, Axel Mazella FRA and Connor Bainbridge GBR are the first chasers. Bruce Kessler SUI is 38th, Gian-Andrea Stragiotti SUI follows in 49th. Lauriane Nolot FRA maintained her lead in the women's race, Jessie Kampman FRA follows 6 points behind in 2nd. There is also a French lead in the women's windsurfers with Lola Sorin FRA, Emma Wilson GBR follows 9 points behind in 2nd. In the men's race Sebastian Koerdel GER has taken the lead.  Olympic Worldcup - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 3 Yesterday, there was a classic sea breeze with 12-15 knots of wind on the bay of Palma. All classes were able to complete the qualifications for the final regattas. The Medal Races are scheduled for Saturday. ----- In the ILCA 6, Charlotte Rose USA has taken the lead, 5 points behind Zoe Thomson AUS and Marit Bouwmester NED share second place on equal points. Despite an early start, Maud Jayet SUI has moved up to fourth place overall with 1st and 3rd places. Anja Von Allmen SUI is 55th, missing the Goldfleet by a single place! Rosine Baudet SUI follows in 72nd. ----- In ILCA 7, Daniel Whiteley GBR and Philipp Buhl GER each won all 3 races in their group and moved to the top. Tonci Stipanovic CRO follows in 3rd, with Gauthier Verhulst SUI in 76th and Matteo Paulon SUI in 124th sailing in the Silverfleet from today. ----- In the Mixed 470, Simon Diesch/Anna Markfort GER have taken the lead.  Olympic Worldcup - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 2 In inconsistent conditions with rain and 6 and 15kn wind, all classes were in action yesterday. ----- In the Mixed 470, the German teams were convincing: Luise Wanser/Philipp Autenrieth GER lead one point ahead of Malte and Anastasiya Winkel GER. Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler SUI started furiously with a 2nd race rank, but then had to accept a 22nd place and are 22nd. Linda Fahrni/Cyril Schüpbach SUI follow in 32nd. ----- There are two races in ILCA 6: Marit Bouwmeester NED leads one point ahead of Charlotte Rose USA. With 8th and 4th places in her group, Maud Jayet SUI is 10th, and Anja Von Allmen follows in 40th of the 106 competitors. ----- In ILCA 7, the veterans have taken command: Tonci Stipanovic CRO with a one-point lead over Michael Beckett GBR, another point behind is Matthew Wearn AUS 3. As the best Swiss in the fleet of 184 participants, Gauthier Verhulst SUI is 102nd, and Matteo Paulon SUI follows in 108th place. ----- In the Nacra 17, the Nacra 15 World Champions Axel Grandjean/Noëmi Fehlmann SUI have made their debut: With ranks 25 and 6, they are 30th in the fleet of 50 teams.  Olympic Worldcup - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 1 Dull conditions hampered the start of the first Olympic World Cup of the year yesterday, and only the iQ-Foil windsurfers were able to complete a first slalom. ----- For one half of the ILCA 7, it was enough for one race, won by Karle Tapper FIN ahead of Michael Beckett GBR and Matthew Wearn AUS. ----- The iQ-Foils sailed their slalom split into 6 groups, with Elia Colombo SUI following behind the 6 race winners in 7th (2nd in his slalom). ----- The Mixed 470s started two races, but both had to be abandoned - the report of Mermod/Siegenthaler SUI. ----- All rankings and the daily report.
