Olympic Classes - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - US Sailing Team = Gold Laser Standard, Bronze Laser Radial and RS:X Men Windsurfer

Olympic Classes - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - US Sailing Team = Gold Laser Standard, Bronze Laser Radial and RS:X Men Windsurfer Excellent performance of the US Sailing Team winning Gold in the Lasers Standard with Christopher Barnard (Newport Harbour YC) and twice Bronze with Erika Reineke (Lauderdale YC) in the Lasers Radial and Pedro Pascal Suitt USA in the RS:X Windsurfers. --- The USA Laser sailors defended their 1st and 5th places successfully in the Saturday Medal Races. Finishing 6th was good enough for Christopher Barnard (Newport Harbour YC) to stay on the sensational first position in the Lasers Standard. Charlie Buckingham (Newport Harbour YC), rank 5 in the last race, remained on rank 5 with an 8-point backlog on Bronze. --- In the Lasers Radial, Erika Reineke (Lauderdale YC) controlled her immediate opponent Tuula Tenkanen FIN, finishing on the ranks 6 and 7, but it was the Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED winning the race who jumped on rank 2 overall, relegating Reineke on 3rd. Paige Railey (St-Francis YC) finished on 4th and moved one up on the 6th place overall. --- Unexpected was the excellent 2nd race rank of Pedro Pascal Suitt USA in the RS:X men windsurfers who brought him up as 3rd on the podium. --- The Medal Race day looked set to require at best a wait, at worst …well, have racing cancelled. Winds over 25kts, gusting nearly to 30kts, as well as big seas with breaking waves at the entrance to the Arenal Marina provoked numerous postponements. Finally, the Medal Races could be sailed in the "traditional" boats, while the not-so-sea-worthy "high-performance" classes - 49ers and Nacras - were kept ashore, and the rankings after the Final Series became firm. --- Check out the results of ALL North American participants (CAN, MEX, PUR, USA) here (PDF). --- All ranking lists and the official daily news.

Same situation in the 470 women, where the leading Hannah Mills/Eilidh McIntyre GBR finished on top of the Medal Race as well. Olympic Classes - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 5 - US Sailing Team Medal Race in the Lasers Standard and Radials and the RS:X men windsurfer

Olympic Classes - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 5 - US Sailing Team Medal Race in the Lasers Standard and Radials and the RS:X men windsurfer Qualified for the Medal Races of today Saturday are: Barnard and Buckingham (Laser Standard), Reineke and Railey (Laser Radial) and Suitt (RS:X Windsurfers). The Final Series of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia were concluded yesterday.

The USA Laser sailors delivered the best performance ever in a top international regatta with Christopher Barnard (Newport Harbour YC) as brilliant leader in the Lasers Standard with a 12-point advantage on rank 2 before the Medal Race. Not far behind follows Charlie Buckingham (Newport Harbour YC) on 5th only 2 points behind the podium.
In the Lasers Radial, Erika Reineke (Lauderdale YC) advanced on rank 2 only 4 points behind the leader and this before the crucial double-point-no-discard Medal Race. Paige Railey (St-Francis YC) is up on rank 7.
Pedro Pascal Suitt USA finished twice on 6th yesterday in the RS:X men windsurfers, and jumped onto the 5th place.

Some other hopefuls did not make it on the final day and terminated the competition yesterday. In the 49ers, Andrew Mollerus/Ian MacDiarmid USA had their worst day (24/15/21) and dropped from 8th to 17th. Paris Henken/Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias USA did not succeed to improve their 11th place in the 49erFX (day ranks 13/16/19) and finished on rank 13 overall. Riley Gibbs/Anna Weis USA starting the day as 12th in the Nacra-17 had all chances to make the cut, finishing 2nd and 3rd yesterday, but a rank 24 downer in the second-last race destroyed all hopes. 12th overall, mere 3 points behind rank 10 is the final outcome. Farrah Hall (St-Francis YC) dropped out of the RS:X women top-10 on Thursday after the second premature start disqualification and terminated the Trofeo on rank 12.

Today Saturday, the Medal Races will be sailed with two US hot contenders for Gold.

Olympic Classes - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 3 - US Sailing Team 49ersFX, Lasers Standard and Radial and ... surprise ... the RS:X windsurfers in top-10s,

Olympic Classes - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 3 - US Sailing Team 49ersFX, Lasers Standard and Radial and ... surprise ... the RS:X windsurfers in top-10s, Again seven US Sailing Team members in the top-10 (+ 2) of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia after yesterday's races, i.e. in the 49ersFX, the Lasers Standard and Radial and ... surprise ... the RS:X windsurfers, replacing the 49er and Nacra teams.

Both USA Laser Standard helmsmen remained in the top-10. The Goldfleet ranks made the difference yesterday with Christopher Barnard finishing 6 and 6 moving up on the excellent 3rd, and Charlie Buckingham with 32 and 20 leaving him on 8th.
Similar situation in the Lasers Radial. Erika Reineke USA advanced on rank 3 as well with the day ranks 6 and 9, while Paige Railey USA is on 8th with a race win and a retired race.
In the 49ersFX, Paris Henken/Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias are back in the top-10 (rank 9) with a 3rd and 7th place as well as an early start disqualification. Stephanie Roble/Margaret Shea USA however could not keep the pace of the best and with three times 17th, they are down on 16th overall.
The positive surprise of the day are the 10th overall positions in the RS:X windsurfers of Farrah Hall (women) and Pedro Pascal Suitt (men).
A premature start and the ranks 3 and 10 were not good enough for Andrew Mollerus/Ian MacDiarmid USA to keep the top-10 place. Down on rank 12 with a 3-point deficit on the rank 10 cut, they have a good chance to reach the Medal Race.
Also 3 points behind a Medal Race position are Riley Gibbs/Anna Weiss USA as 11th in the Nacra-17 after a premature start disqualification and the ranks 19 and 5 yesterday.
