Finn - Goldcup 2021 - Porto POR - Final results - Gold for Andy Maloney NZL, excellent 6th for Luke Muller USA

The Finn World Championships came to an end yesterday with three races again in inconsistent winds and big swells. ----- Andy Maloney NZL defended first place with ranks 15/5/6 and ensured that the title stayed in New Zealand: Josh Junior NZL won two years ago, and he finished again on the podium this time with a bronze medal. In between in second place was Joan Cardona ESP, grasping the U23 Champion's title, and securing the last European Olympic nations berth for Spain. ----- Luke Muller USA (St. Francis YC) finished in excellent 6th place. Tom Ramshaw CAN (Royal Canadian YC) lost again places and terminated the Championship in 27th. Juan Ignacio Perez MEX (Vallarta YC) remained on rank 36 among the 52 participants. ----- The final ranking, the report and the video of the day.

Finn - Goldcup 2021 - Porto POR - Day 4 - Muller USA defends top place, Ramshaw CAN down on 20th

After two days without racing, the Gold Cup continued yesterday in Porto with 3 heats. ----- In an initial light wind, increasing to 15kn, Jorge Zarif BRA, Nenad Bugarin CRO, and Josh Junior NZL secured a race win each. Before the 3 last races scheduled today, Andy Maloney NZL is still leading with a 5-point advantage over Zsombor Beresz HUN. Josh Junior NZL another 5 points behind remains in the title race. ----- Luke Muller USA (St. Francis YC) and Tom Ramshaw CAN (Royal Canadian YC) started the day sailing their discards (ranks 26 and 31), but Muller came back strongly (ranks 11 and 6) and remained on the excellent rank 7 overall. The Canadian however could not recover (29/22) and dropped to rank 20. Juan Ignacio Perez MEX (Vallarta YC) slightly improved on 35th among the 52 participants. ----- The ranking list, the daily report and the video of the day.

For the second day running, no racing was possible at the 2021 Finn Gold Cup after offshore Atlantic storms brought very unstable conditions to Porto, with wind ranging from 3-33 knots, 120-degree shifts, huge waves, waterspouts, and hail storms. There are two more days left in the Finn Gold Cup, with a maximum of six races possible and one more needed to get a valid series.  Finn - Goldcup 2021 - Porto POR - Day 2 - rain, big swell, no wind, and no races Racing was canceled on the second day of the 2021 Finn Gold Cup in Porto, Portugal, with a complete lack of wind in the morning, and huge waves battering the harbor entrance in the afternoon following overnight storms. ----- After the three races of the starting day, Andy Maloney NZL is leading with one point ahead of Joan Cardona ESP, followed by Zsombor Beresz HUN in third place. Good first day for the North Americans at the Finn World Championship in Porto POR with Luke Muller USA (St. Francis YC), winner of race one, in 6th, and Tom Ramshaw CAN (Royal Canadian YC) in 9th. Juan Ignacio Perez MEX (Vallarta YC) is on rank 39 among the 52 participants. Three races were completed in an initial light wind, increasing to 13 knots during the day. -------------- Overall leader is Andrew Maloney NZL, the only one to finish all races in the top ten. Joan Cardona ESP follows one point behind.  Finn - Goldcup 2021 - Porto POR - Practice Race today - with the USA, CAN, MEX Olympians The World Championship of the Olympic Finns starts today in Portugal, and for the first time in two years, the world's elite will meet. In addition to the title fight, the last Olympic starting places will be awarded - one each for Europe and Africa. At the start are 59 participants from 32 nations among them the favourites Giles Scott GBR, Jack Lilley AUS, Zsombor Beresz HUN or Nicholas Heiner NED. ----- Luke Muller USA, Tom Ramshaw CAN and Juan Ignacio Perez MEX represent North America. ----- The official preview.
