IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Ultime, Ocean 50 - Transat Jacques Vabre - Le Havre FRA - Day 1

With fresh winds, the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre occurred yesterday at noon in Le Havre. Still, with weather-related restrictions: Only the fast Ultime trimarans are completing the race as planned: This morning the 5 teams are already on the Bay of Biscay at speeds of around 25kn and will thus escape the approaching storm front. The Ocean 50 trimarans and the Class 40 are making an intermediate stop in Lorient today. The Open 60 have not started and are waiting for the weather to improve in Le Havre, which is not expected to happen until the end of the week. ----- The Ultime fleet is led by 'Banque Populaire' (Armel Le Cléac'h/Sébastien Josse FRA) with a 2.3-mile lead over 'Edmond de Rothschild' with Charles Caudrelier/Erwan Israel FRA. ----- The Ocean 50 trimarans are rounding the western tip of Brittany this morning and will reach the leg finish in Lorient around midday. Thibaut Vauchel-Camus/Quentin Vlamynck FRA lead by 7 miles from Luke Berry GBR/Antoine Joubert FRA. ----- Class 40 has around 170 miles to go to Lorient this morning, with Ambrogio Beccaria ITA/Nicolas Andrieu FRA leading by 2.3 miles over Achille Nebout/Gildas Mahé FRA. ----- The race-tracker and the reports.
